Age and growth of the Atlantic thread herring, Opisthonema oglinum (Le Sueur, 1818) (Teleostei: Clupeidae), of Margarita Island, Venezuela
Main Article Content
Abstract
Age and growth of the Atlantic thread herring, Opisthonema oglinum (Le Sueur, 1818) was determined from the cleithra of 771 individuals caught at Margarita Island, from November 1986 to October 1987. Three age groups were found in the annual zones of the cleithra. The theoretical growth curves for length and weight were adjusted according to the values of the von Bertalanffy model parameters: L∞ = 29.8 cm; W∞ = 360.2 g; K = 0.47; t∞ = –1.00.
