Abstract

Haloguignardia irritans (Setchell et Estee in Estee) Cribb and Cribb 1956, a parasitic ascomycete fungi formerly known only for California, USA, is reported for the first time for the west coast of Baja California, Mexico. Galls or tumor-like growths were found in lower parts of the brown algae Halidrys dioica Gardner. Ecological and morphological observations are included and the geographic distribution of this algicolous fungi along the North American Pacific coast is discussed.
